Made of Plastic, They're Fantastic

Let's see you get at my seedlings now, you pesky birds!

Luckily, the recycling truck hadn't come by the time I discovered the mischief, and I was able to rescue a bunch of plastic bottles to be made into pop cloches. These recycled devices will protect little plants from birds, insects, weather, and cold.

They're constructed from some saved 64-ounce juice bottles, an empty fertilizer bottle, and several Aquafina water bottles. So best of all, they didn't cost anything to make!

If my grandfather was still alive and knew what the internet was, he'd be visiting your blog everyday and either posting suggestions or telling you how great you're doing!!! He would've thought the plastic pop cloches were ingenious. I know you never met the man, but at one time he had a vegetable garden the size of the lot my parent's house is on (or maybe it just looked that big because I was little then), an avocado tree, a macadamia nut tree, a mango tree, and a starfruit tree. By the time we 'closed up' their house on Kauai, he had something like 30 pots of anthuriums - the darn things never died, they just kept growing and he and my mom kept on repotting. I don't think anything died unless he wanted it too. And then there's me, a huge dislike of bugs and dirt w/ a black thumb to boot. :oP

Great idea! I can relate to your gardening ventures at the moment - I'm starting a garden from scratch too. It's exciting huh? The promise of good things to come - hopefully lots of beautiful plants! Thanks for the reading.
